Vancouver Sun Columnist Dr. Jennnifer Newman Wins Award
November 28, 2008, Vancouver BC - Vancouver Sun columnist and registered
psychologist Dr. Jennifer Newman has won the Park O. Davidson "Practice of the
Profession" Award for her contributions to the practice of psychology in British
Columbia.
Dr. Newman received her award at a ceremony in Vancouver Friday evening.
The award is given by the British Columbia Psychological Association and
recognizes significant and distinguished contributions to the practice of the
profession in the province.
Dr. Newman served as Chair fo the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards from
2004 to 2007. The awards recognize workplaces whose culture, policies and
practices enbrace psychological health. British Columbia was the first Canadian
province to host the award program.
"Dr. Newman deserves considerable credit for this accomplishment, achieved
through her dauntless enthusiasm, collaborative spirit and ceaseless hard work,"
said Dr. Merv Gilbert, a Vancouver psychologist and current chair of the
Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards, who presented her with the award
Friday.
Dr. Newman, together with business partner Dr. Darryl Grigg, has been writing
columns for the Sun on a range of workplace issues since 2001. She and Dr. Grigg
are also partners in Newman & Grigg Psychological and Consulting Services, which
provides consultation to a range of corporate clients. Services include
leadership training and coaching, and team development.
Dr. Newman is a graduate of the University of British Columbia, where she
received a PhD in counselling psychology.
She has published articles in professional and lay publications, including her
regular column in the Saturday Sun. She also serves as vice-chair of the board
of the RainCity Housing and Support Society, which provides housing to
Vancouver's homeless.
